As a voluntary worker for over 20 years, I have delivered for my community and I will bring new ideas, vitality and energy to
Kerry County Council. In my voluntary capacity I have also gained worthwhile experience while campaigning for Health Services,
Roads and other issues This experience, I can put to good use in the Council Chamber. As an elected Councillor, I can do
and will do much more for you and your families.
If you feel in the current economic climate that there is need for change, then this is your opportunity to elect a truly independent candidate, who is not under the thumb of any party. Please give me your number 1 vote in the County Council Election on June 5th. and I guarantee that I will deliver for you.
Beir bua agus beannacht, Brigid O' Connor Over the past 11 years, I have worked as a Youth Worker with the Kerry Diocesan Youth Service in the West,
Flesk and Mid Kerry areas, I am well aware of the many issues affecting young people. I believe Investing
in Youth is an investment in the future and will pay huge dividends. Cuts in grants and increases in
university fees will affect many young people in education today.
I will fight for equal opportunity and affordable education for all especially the provision of transport
for all pupils in rural areas to primary, secondary and third level education centres. I will also seek
freedom for parents to send their children to a school of their own choice.
* The current situation of targeting the lower and middle class worker is abysmal. Many of these people did not share in the
wealth of some of our jet setting higher paid executives sometimes referred to as a GOLDEN CIRCLE. They did however help create
that wealth. They must not now be penalised. Let those who squandered and killed our Celtic Tiger economy now pay the price to revive it.
Backing up large banks is an insult to the ordinary citizen !! The status of the tax exile must be addressed, this
country helped them amass that wealth. Politicians and people in public life must cut their costs . The Government
must put money back into the local economy to help sustain local jobs and local employment. As an elected member of Kerry Co.
Council I will promote and support job creation and local industry in Kerry. Broadband cannot be accessed in many areas due to poor infrastructure. Recent statistics indicated that poor infrastructure affects local
employment opportunities.
Over the past 2 years I have campaigned vigorously for the provision of Health Services in Kerry General Hospital. Attending Dail and other
local Protests to retain Cancer and other Services at Kerry General Hospital. I participated in the collection of 21,000 signatures
in favour of the Retention of Cancer Services at KGH. I also campaigned for Dingle Community Hospital, which recently opened in Dingle
town.
* As Secretary of the Kerry branch and member of the National Irish Rural Dwellers Association I have lobbied all Government bodies and
recently put forward a submission to the County Development Plan concerning Planning restrictions in the rural countryside. Young
people who wish to reside in their own community are being refused permission to build their own home on their own site. The IRDA
welcome and promote new waste treatment systems in the rural countryside such as woodland system of planting reed and willow trees,
which has also the dual purpose of providing wood for heating your home. ENGAGE YOUR LOCAL BUILDER - Big developments in towns
encouraging the rural dweller to abandon his/her community and buy a house or apartment in the nearby town rather than build on their
own land goes against the principal of sustaining Rural communities. * IRISH FARMERS ASSOCIATION – Secretary Camp Branch IFA and Delegate to Kerry Co Executive IFA. * INCREASE QUOTA - The Irish fishing Industry cannot compete with other European Countries due to falling quotas.
I call for support for the development of the fish processing industry locally, in order to create local empoloyment. * Liase with Failte Ireland and other grant aiding bodies and the EU to provide financial support to villages to develop tourist
projects and organise events to attract tourism revenue into the area. * Kerry Community Transport Service extended to include weekend service. * Increase funding for Youth Services and Youth facilities, recent cuts are unacceptable. An investment in youth is an investment
in the future, | |||||||||
